2018 I made decision to get my health under control, which has led me to a plant-based lifestyle. Many people don’t know what Plant-Based is….so what exactly is it? Being Plant-Based I center my meals around plants. Now I don’t eat meat or dairy, I do however occasionally eat fish. I limit my ingestion of anything processed. I have followed this lifestyle for over two years and can honestly say I am in the best health of my life.
Now since being home with COVID, I have watch over ten documentaries on food and nutrition. Watching the documentaries coupled with my own research and knowledge has caused me to arrive at a very controversial conclusion ….. the American government is intentionally trying to make us sick. I have been saying to my family for years, “They trying to kill US.” When I say that my family always laughs at me, but I believe it’s true.
The standard American diet has no significant scientific basis and essentially contributes to most chronic diseases plaguing the Black community (i.e. hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, etc). My community, our community is being killed with food.
In most Black communities you don’t have decent grocery stores, but we always have McDonald’s, Papa John’s, and a Wendy’s.
Now, some of you are doing the quintessential eye roll but hear me out. The best example I can use is Type 2 diabetes. Now the basic understanding of Type 2 diabetes is your sugar is high because you are eating too much sugar. Now let’s go back to the standard American diet, the standard American diet as the diabetic diet encourages the majority of our calories come from grains/carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates, in its simplest form is SUGAR!! So by basic logic why encourage a diabetic to eat something that will cause there blood sugar to go UP. America is the most civilized country in the world and yet we are the sickest. The Black community unfortunately is sicker than any community in this country. I am being led on a journey to educate and make my community healthier. I want to see my community do AWESOME things, but we won’t be able to do that if we don’t take care of our health.
I am not saying that Plant-Based is the best diet, however having followed the science and knowing what the American government pushes as a healthy diet is absolutely FALSE has caused me to arrive at this place. I will be writing weekly blogs about nutrition for education and encouragement so we can make INFORMED decisions about our health.
